Smart technology optimizes with dynamic energy pricing
The Borg Smart Software combines multiple types of data to provide heat as economically as possible:
The temperature in the buffer tank
The weather forecast
Dynamic energy prices, up to 34 hours ahead
The expected heat demand in the home for a particular type of weather
With this information, the software knows how much energy is needed to heat the home for the next few days. And then it becomes clear at what exact moment energy needs to be purchased and the buffer loaded. The weather conditions not only determine the heat demand in the home, but also how efficiently the heat pump can generate this heat (Coefficient of Performance or COP). The smart software constantly looks for the times when the COP is as high as possible and the price is as low as possible. The software makes these calculations several times a day. In this way, the buffer is always prepared for the heat demand in the home and can constantly çherry-pick when it comes to the cost of heating the buffer.
The graph below shows how the software purchased in any given week in November. The blue line is the progression of dynamic rates. The peaks in the green line indicate the times when the Borg purchased electricity. You can see that the buying moments always coincide with a low energy price. At moments with a high energy price no purchases are made but heat from the buffer is used.
